I appreciate the opportunity to work with homeschoolers in Philadelphia and the nearby counties. I do both elementary and secondary evaluations and tutor Spanish to students seeking an enriching experience in second-language learning.
As a certified teacher in the state of Pennsylvania, I have forty years experience teaching Spanish full time in public and private schools. I also have extensive experience as a private tutor, and particularly enjoy working with homeschool families. For the past eight years I have been the head of the World Language Department at a private school. I have been honored to act as a mentor for teachers of AP Spanish, to teach various seminars for teachers, to write a curriculum for Univision for the classroom, and to be the recipient of both the Rockerfeller Fellowship Award in Foreign Language for my work in writing a textbook, and the Northeast Region Award for my work as an AP Spanish teacher. I hold two Bachelor and two Master’s degrees from Temple University and Gratz College.
My teaching philosophy is that small groups in which only Spanish is spoken create an optimum environment for tutoring. In my groups, students acquire a broad range of Spanish skills and are well prepared for college entrance exams. I have found that integration of Spanish language skills with the study of Spanish art, culture, and history contributes to an exciting learning environment and reinforces critical thinking skills so intrinsic for success at the college level.
